MENUS

Our Menu

The Red Lion Chefs delight in creating traditional, homemade meals incorporating both local and seasonal produce at it’s best. Wherever possible they insist on buying from the New Forest area. From fresh, flavoursome ingredients come delicious dishes and here at the Red Lion we love good wholesome food. We scrutinise local suppliers to ensure we only use those who take pride in, and excel at, providing the very best.

We are proud to be Associate Members of the New Forest Marque
for our use and promotion of food produced in the New Forest Area.

Our main meat supplier, Owtens Butchers, is a family run butchers for over thirty years, all the meat from Owtens is Hampshire meat, they place the highest emphasis on quality, freshness and supporting local farmers.

The Organic Lamb’s Liver we use and, on Sundays, our Traditional Roast Beef (totally Organic ) are from Warborne Farm (Warborne Organic Farm is very popular with locals and visitors alike for all organic produce and well worth a visit whilst you are in Boldre).

The renowned New Forest Sausage Company of Sway, known locally as the ‘Sway Sausage Shop‘ supply our Burgers and created The Red Lion Sausage especially for us, a traditional pork sausage with Venison and Wild Boar reflecting the flavours of the New Forest.

Our greengrocer is Mike Hall Quality Produce of Christchurch who delivers to us 7 days a week to ensure that we always have the freshest produce. Wherever possible we try to include local organic produce.

Our daily Chef’s Specials Board features real local dishes, for example New Forest Venison from local Deer Manager, Tony Lascelles of Ytene Venison, licensed game dealers, part of the sustainable deer management for the New Forest.

Being so close to the sea our Chef's Specials also feature fresh fish and Shellfish dishes which we endeavour to source as locally as possible. All are Marine Security Council approved, from sustainable sources. Fish dishes, especially whole fresh fish, are prepared simply to enhance the taste and not overwhelm the natural flavour.

Weather allowing, we are now making the daily trip to Snooks Farm to pick up whole, fresh, dressed Lymington Crabs, such a treat, served with a simple fresh salad and local granary bread, a harbinger of summer.

Look out for our pudding boards, where a daily, very tempting, selection is available. Our puddings are all homemade on the premises, using the finest ingrediants to make puddings ' just like mother used to make'.

Amanda and Alan.
